About Critical Writing _ a workshop I fascilitated for Sonic Acts "the Dark Universe"

Image
_ _    ___ F or years now, I visit the Sonic Acts festival.  I safe the dates even if I have other offers myself - because every year I visit, I am overwhelmed by inspiration and the knowledge I would never find otherwise.  Sonic Acts festival offers its visitors a chance to navigate (new) cross-disciplinary audiovisual experiences and excels at curating critical experiences that reflect contextualize each other (here I mean critical in the sense that it challenged and changed the status quo of my perception).  Every year I hear about people discovering a new set of eyelids or ear drums being popped and suddenly their senses receive an extra layer of reality. Which is a beautiful experience, but as a writer this has also brought me into trouble; one year I collected so much footage and notes that i got stuck into some kind of state of data-obese information retention, while the next year I was experiencing so much that I forgot/could not write anymore. The Progress of Ambiguity: Uncertain Imagery in Digital Culture by Mikhel Proulx

Image
got a bit teary eyed when I read Mikhel Proulx master thesis , in which he writes: "In works like TIFF Compression glitch (2010) (fig. 4), a theatrical sensibility imbues her rigid self-portrait video-still – a shivering graphic that seems to tear at the skin of the young woman and of the image. Like so many pre-teen web-cam-diaries, Menkman faces her audience with a candid-but-controlled demeanour: her veiled eyes scorched in electric chiaroscuro."   Its scary when somebody else writes about my work, they see things from another perspective. .. not through my own eyes. But it is also really great to see my life with through their eyes.  The animated gif Mikhel writes about is a still from a video i made back in the days and that finally lead to  this video . I   painted my face white to say i wanted to try over, be a blank page without all the flaws i had before. But finally it turned out i was allergic to the paint. my eyes were so black because of the blood...

interview for No Name Magazine

Image
Johann Velit interviewed me for No Name Magazine (NNM) using an interview technique I had never heard of before. As life these days is not really "normal" the interview does not really cover my "normal" daily life. Or maybe it does. In any case, it was a lot of fun to do this interview. During one hole day NNM.Visual.Interviews studio (Experimental Approach) calls the artist to his/her cell phone every 30-45 minutes (random time laps) as a call to action. The interviewed artist will take a picture of his/her environment or the situation in which he/she is or can take a”snapshot” of their computer screen each time he/she is called by NNM.Studio. (The answer, photo or snapshot, must be taken immediately after NNM’s call, regardless of the situation in which the interviewed artist is at that time). This response to the call must be emailed to NNM.Studio right after it has been taken. The artist may include an explanation text and may or may not appear in the images tak...

tasmanias realities beyond resolution.

Image
I spend the last 2 weeks at the island of drifting rainbows, on the south of Australia (tasmania). Here the water turns the other way around and the animals are much louder than anywhere else. somewhere the ending turned into a beginning and i am like Alice in a magic wonderland.
